provides 70% of Israel’s fresh produce
– Times of Israel
The kibbutzim and moshavim farming communities in the Western Negev are responsible for producing the nation's food and pioneering climate-resilient technologies for the world.
The October 7th attacks devastated these farming communities.
Over $500 million in farmer income lost
40,000 hectares of agricultural land damaged
Vital farming equipment, including tractors and planters, destroyed or stolen
The killing and kidnapping of foreign workers has caused a labor crisis and shortage of more than 10,000 experienced farmworkers
The Crippling Impact of the prolonged War in the north:
The North Provides the following percentage of Israel’s fresh produce*:
72% Grazing Pastures
67% Eggs
67% Deciduous fruit
49% poultry meat
47% vineyards
The agricultural communities in the north have suffered devastating losses due to the prolonged war, impacting both food production and critical infrastructure.
Close to half a million dunams of farmland burned destroying orchards and pastures.
Thousands of dunams of farmland deemed inaccessible
Over 10 reported cyber attacks targeting essential agricultural systems.
Vital agricultural facilities destroyed, inc ~ 50 chicken coops.
66% of farmers surveyed report labour shortages
Loss of 35,000 tons of produce (~25% of national production) within the first six months.
